UNIVERSITY a cappella group The Oxford Belles have launched a charity Christmas single.

The group, made up of students from Oxford University and Oxford Brookes University, have released the single and video of a cappella rendition of the Adolphe Adam carol 'O Holy Night'.

It comes just days after their male counterparts the University a cappella all-male group Out of the Blue launch their own Christmas single - a cover of Slade's Merry Christmas everybody.

President of The Oxford Belles Ellie Thomas said: "This Christmas we wanted to release a video in aid of two charities particularly close to our hearts. The first is Greater Change, a donation platform to aid cashless giving to the homeless.

"At this time of year and particularly in Oxford, the homelessness problem is ever increasing and we have chosen to support Greater Change due to their efforts to combat this problem

"As a fellow student organisation which some of our members volunteer for. Mind is our second chosen charity, primarily due to the girls’ experiences of mental health and our passion to decrease stigma."

The video and audio for the Chirstmas single 'O Holy Night' have both been entirely directed, recorded and produced by the Oxford students and lead by musical director Caitlin Kelly.

The Oxford belles staged a dual-release yesterday to reveal the hard work that has gone into this year's Christmas single on Facebook and YouTube.

Ms Thomas added: "After only singing together for just seven weeks with our new members, we are excited to release our version of this popular carol, arranged by the musical director Caitlin Kelly.

"As Christmas is a time of giving, we hope that a Christmas video could inspire donations to these causes."
