A DRIVER and passenger escaped the mangled wreckage of a car after smashing with a parked lorry near Oxford.

Firefighters said the people involved were 'fortunate' not to sustain serious injuries following the crash, which happened shortly before 11.30am yesterday.

Crews were called to the A40 London Road to reports a car collided with a stationary lorry, and had to cut a trapped adult from the car.

Crew manager Mike Milling said: “The car appears to have driven into the rear of the lorry that was parked up at the time.

"The driver and passenger were very fortunate to escape the incident with such minimal injuries.

"This could well have been a life-threatening and life-changing road traffic incident."

The injured were taken to hospital by South Central Ambulance after being treated at the scene.

Further investigation into the cause is being carried out by Thames Valley Police.

The A40 London Road stretches from Wheatley to Headington, but emergency services did not specify exactly where the crash happened.
