A CONCRETE student block and a Roman parade ground have made a list of 'intriguing places' to be given listed status this year.

The Grade II listed Sir Thomas White Building at St John's College, built at the beginning of the 1970s, made Historic England's top 20 most unusual buildings, landscapes or monuments listed in 2017.

The three-storey block was built to cater for the growth in students in the 1960s.

Alchester Roman Parade Ground, in Merton, also made the list.

Historic England described it as a 'very rare' military parade ground which would have been used for training infantry and cavalry.

It was designated a 'scheduled monument'.
