A COUPLE celebrating their diamond wedding anniversary today with ‘lovely friends and family’ say the key to a long and happy marriage is to ‘do as you are told’.

Eva and Reginald Warry first met in 1957 when she was 17 and he was 23, in what was then known as the Headington Café, which has since become Posh Fish in London Road.

They celebrated Mr Warry’s 83rd birthday there this year.

Mr Warry said he ‘chatted her up and asked her if she was going to the pictures’.

She agreed to go with him to the cinema and Mr Warry said: “She was captured”.

Mrs Warry, 78, said the couple will be waltzing to the sound of Unchained Melody by the Righteous Brothers at their anniversary party today, which they are celebrating with friends and family who are coming from across the country.

The anniversary will mark three weddings for the couple.

Since tying the knot on March 15, 1958, at Oxford registry office, Mr and Mrs Warry have renewed their vows twice.

The first was on their silver wedding anniversary, and they did so again on their 40th.

The third time they ‘wed’ Mrs Warry walked down the aisle at Quarry Church with a bridal party of two pageboys and six bridesmaids.

It different slightly from the second time they 'remarried' with only one pageboy and five bridesmaids.

The Warry’s have previously lived around the county including Tetsworth, central Oxford and Barton, where they still live now.

They have two children together, Janet, 60, and Elaine, 55, as well as four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Warry said the secret to a long and happy marriage is to 'do as you are told.'

He said: "There is lots of enjoyment in bringing up children and working but you just get on with it."

Mrs. Warry said marriage is about 'give and take.'

Mr. Warry worked on a farm, as well as serving in the RAF and as an engineer and manufacturer for 28 years.

Mrs. Warry worked in a bakery as well as working at a hospital for a decade.
