81 drivers stopped in belt check

Police and Oxfordshire County Council officers caught dozens of drivers in a road safety check in Upper High Street, Thame.

Despite wide-reaching road safety campaigns and regular enforcement operations, 81 people were detected not wearing their seatbelts. 75 of these drivers took the option of roadside education.

In addition ten drivers were stopped for using their mobile phones while driving. Five people did not have valid road tax.

Oxfordshire Road Safety Constable Mark Pilling, who led the operation said: “It is massively disappointing that people continue to flout road safety laws that are there for their own protection.

“There were a high number of offences at this location. Many more than we would expect.

“We will continue our campaign of enforcement and education to reinforce road safety messages.”
