Abingdon death now 'unexplained'

THE death of a woman who was pulled from a burning house in Abingdon is now being treated as unexplained, police have confirmed.

The identity of the woman, who died following a fire in an upstairs room in a terraced house in Spey Road, Shippon, on Friday morning has not yet been released.

She was understood to be in her 30s.

Thames Valley Police said results from an initial post mortem examination by a Home Office pathologist today were “inconclusive” and further tests would now be carried out.

Det Supt Rob Mason, who is leading the investigation, said: “Our enquiries are continuing and we are working towards establishing the full circumstances behind this tragic death.”

The family of the victim, who was found in the property and taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford where she died, have been informed but formal identification has not yet been carried out.

Police originally described the death as suspicious.
