Olympic torch designer returns to his old patch
9:10am Tuesday 10th July 2012 in Olympic Torch Relay
Jay Osgerby
TWENTY-three years ago, Olympic Torch designer Jay Osgerby was an art student at Oxford Brookes University.
And yesterday, he returned to his home turf on the same day as his iconic creation.
Mr Osgerby, who now lives in South London, came back to sign his 1920s-style poster designs which adorn the walls of Cafe Coco in Cowley Road where he worked as a barman about a decade ago.
He said: “The torch was only the second time in my life I have used gold in a design, the first one being the gold paint on the walls here.”
The former Henry Box School pupil said: "Oxford is really aninspiring place.”
The 41-year-old won a national contest to design the Olympic torch, beating more than 1,000 other competitors.
