Anything strike you as noteworthy in the picture above? It is from last Friday’s Daily Telegraph and shows the Queen on a visit to a fish market in Newhaven, East Sussex.

That’s right. Her Majesty is not wearing a poppy, unlike her guide, market manager Kerry Bickerstaff.

Our rush to sport the poppy, like Christmas, seems to begin earlier each year — especially where politicians and media folk are concerned, all wishing to be seen to be doing the right thing.

Presumably poppies can’t be worn until the Royal British Legion puts them on sale. But some are proudly paraded so early that one suspects they could be last year’s recycled.
