We are yet to be convinced of the value of wind turbines in and around a city like Oxford.
While energy from wind will clearly play its part in UK energy policy as the years go by, we cannot see how dozens of 130-metre-high turbines dotted around the city will prove acceptable.
There are better locations for turbines — offshore where the wind is stronger and their visual impact is less or on low-value, remote and high land. The Horspath proposal is a grand political gesture but will Oxford ever realistically be powered on any scale by wind?
