We hope our readers are not, once again, being given a false sense of optimism over plans for the resurrection of a train station for Wantage and Grove.
Over the course of 20 years, we have been here many times before.
Studies have been carried out, designs for a station have been produced and planning permission sought.
The station, however, is nowhere nearer being built today than it was 20 years ago.
It has consistently faltered because no one is prepared to pay for it. It has not attracted Government cash, nor has any train operator been prepared to fund it because of concerns about financial viability.
If the Association of Train Operators really does believe a station could be a going concern then something should be done about it.
To say it should be built by 2017 is vague. Talk is cheap. Now is the time for the rail industry to put up or shut up.
