Sir - After almost nine months of, not patiently, waiting for a response from Oxfordshire County Council regarding sorting out the parking situation in Old Marston we have received the promised questionnaire and list of suggestions to alleviate the ever encroaching blight of parking on quiet residential roads.

Old Marston Parish Council, councillors Mary Clarkson, Mick Haynes and Mark Lygo, assisted by some residents are coordinating the distribution, by hand. By now well over a thousand of these will have been delivered to all households.

This is now our chance to get this situation under control once and for all. If we inform the council of our difficulties and relate our poor daily experiences of what life in our area is like then they will do something.

Quite what is not yet clear but there are three current suggestions. Parking permits, do nothing or a two-hour, area-wide parking restrictions, Monday to Friday.

The Oxford Road, Old Marston has parking all day with the ensuing problems of buses and traffic in general being forced to pull in where they can or back up to allow free movement.

This is totally wrong.

Also there are two bus stops opposite each other near junction with Cherwell Drive. I was 20 minutes late for a hospital appointment due to a snarl-up there.

Hopefully this will be the start of something positive, though remember the date!

I will push for the five-day area-wide parking restrictions suggestion. Not to transfer the problem somewhere else but to try and get the ever expanding Brookes, Hospitals and university to allow and plan for car parking for their staff. Public transport was supposed to prevent influx of cars into city area - none of us should have to wait until 2031 as recommended in the Local Transport Plan (LTP3, 2015-2031).
