Sir – I have used Seacourt park-and-ride daily for the last two years, parking my car there and cycling in to my office in the city centre.

The ‘new bike parking’ that the council has installed isn’t improved, just a newer version of what already existed and is woefully inadequate compared to the number of car parking spaces available.

All the council needed to do is look at how many bikes are tied to the perimeter fencing to see how many more bike racks were required. As part of the resurfacing of the car park they have removed a lot of fencing and so my ‘usual spot’ for locking my bike no longer exists.

As no bike racks were free, I locked my bike to the fence in the same area as the racks and on the first night it was stolen.

Money doesn’t need to be wasted on making the bike racks look pretty – just put more of them in. It is beyond me how the council thinks the current arrangement encourages people to cycle.
