Sir – The reported regeneration of the area from Frideswide Square to Nuffield College offers a golden opportunity to improve Oxford’s transport infrastructure at the same time as replacing and improving a large area of “tired” buildings.

A considerable part of the area between Hythe Bridge Street and New Inn Hall Street could be used as Oxford’s coach station, abandoning the currently difficult to access Gloucester Green site. Buses/coaches would be able to access/depart from either side, with similar access being provided for taxis and public drop-off.

Maintaining access from both Hythe Bridge Street and New Inn Hall Street would not preclude the provision of new commercial and residential accommodation as this could be developed above the coach station.

Having a modern coach station adjacent to the city centre and rail station, served by the city bus services, would make life much easier for travellers visiting Oxford and could prove a hub enabling more regional bus services to come to the city.

I trust this idea is of sufficient merit to be given serious consideration by those planning regeneration of this area.
