Plague of coaches

6:50am Thursday 18th March 2010

Sir – A plague of monster foreign-registered coaches has descended on Iffley Turn, in the evident belief that this is the city’s free coach park.

We are not the first to be infested, I am sure, but the problem is here and now. There appears to be a clandestine business by people who see fit to offer board, lodging and parking for these massive things, where the ‘parking’ involves dumping these things in streets plainly not designed for them.

Last summer it reached the ridiculous point where Eastern European coaches double parked, blocked junctions, parked on the pavements, and so on.

The police may have temporarily abated the nuisance, but it has come back. Why, if the council maintains (out of our taxes) a designated coach park, should we have to put up with this ? I can’t think of a single good reason, but I can come up with several bad ones.
