SEESaw is a local charity that provides unique support for grieving children, young people and their families in Oxfordshire facing or following the death of a parent or sibling.

The support SeeSaw provides takes many forms. This includes helping children prepare memory boxes to remember the special person who has died, training teachers to support bereaved children in their class, and running activity days for groups of bereaved children.

SeeSaw produces specialised literature, and has recently published What Happens When Someone Dies, a beautifully accessible book for children now being used with parents, schools, support workers, funeral directors and many other groups around the UK.

Much of SeeSaw’s income is from voluntary donations, and with annual running costs of about £300,000, fundraising is essential all year round. SeeSaw is lucky to have volunteers who help at all kinds of fundraising initiatives and events.

So far this year, events have included an Oxford Radcliffe Orchestra concert, local fêtes, an in-store collection at Marks & Spencer for a cycle-a-thon, a summer ball, Oxford Gospel Choir concerts, the Abingdon Food Festival, a rare plants fair, the British 10k London Run, the Three Peaks Challenge and more. Future events in the diary include the Swinford Toll Bridge collection, a golf day, a bag pack and the Abingdon Marathon. But SeeSaw really needs more volunteers.

Jane Elliott, fundraiser at SeeSaw, said: “Volunteering for SeeSaw doesn’t have to be time consuming.

“You can do as little or as much as you want. An hour or two now and then is just as welcome as a regular commitment.

“Our volunteers come from all walks of life and cover a wide age range too. They share a common desire to help a charity which delivers a much-needed service for young people and their families.

“And as well as providing vital resource for SeeSaw they have a lot of fun!’ If you would like to find out more about becoming a volunteer for SeeSaw, please contact Jane Elliott, on 01865 744768, or email fundraiser@seesaw.org.uk
