Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a nasty disease, gradually turning off nerve functions, making walking harder and harder along with pains and spasms. No mental faculties are affected. The course is often progressive, and other symptoms occur.

Drugs are available to relieve symptoms and are helpful to some degree.  Much work is being done to find a ‘cure’, but that is a long way off.

The MS Therapy Centre exists to fill the need of day-to-day care that having MS dictates. Maintenance of movement and function and maximising ability is key to quality of life, as it is for all of us.
As Angie, one of the xentre’s users, puts it: “The centre has provided me with help, support, advice and alternative treatments to make my life worthwhile.

“I have used everything the centre has available and feel lucky to be a member.”
The centre provide a number of different therapies:

  • Physiotherapy  — an orthodox approach to increased function and mobility
  • Osteopathy  — structural re-alignment for mobility and general health
  • Massage and reflexology — relaxation and muscle tone
  • Auricular acupuncture — uses the ear only
  • Foot care
  • Oxygen Therapy  — delivery of oxygen in a pressurised environment, helps to heal and reduce inflammation (also available for other conditions including sports injuries, following radiotherapy, broken bones — the list is endless).
  • Tea and biscuits — feeds the soul and calms the anxious!

Ed Vaizey MP opened the new rehabilitation gym on  June 13, 2014 during the centre’s 30th anniversary.

The gym contains a MOTOmed, powered arm and leg exerciser, a Thera-trainer Balo, standing frame/balance trainer and Thera-Trainer Tigo 510, multi-purpose exerciser for legs and upper body.  It also has assorted resistance equipment and accessory kit.

Sue Doran, MS Therapy Centre Manager, says: “Please think of us when you do any charitable event, or are looking for a worthwhile local charity for your company to support.”
