CHERYL Davis’s son Miles was given just a 30 per cent chance of surviving his second brain tumour in June 2013.

But less than two years later, the 10-year-old is fighting fit and his parents have decided to take on the Oxford Mail OX5 Run to give something back.

Miles survived his first brain tumour in 2010, when he had an operation to remove it at the John Radcliffe Hospital.

But he had a relapse three years later and underwent chemotherapy in Kamran’s Ward at Oxford Children’s Hospital and radiotherapy at the Churchill Hospital.

His mum Cheryl, from Launton near Bicester, said: “When Miles went into his surgery we didn’t know whether he was going to come back to us.

“The doctor was fantastic, though. They are all so good at what they do.

“They really pull out all the stops, the level of the care they gave us was phenomenal.”

She added: “We are the lucky ones, we have still got Miles. We feel like we need to give something back.”

The 42 year old added: “He’s doing brilliantly, he’s a real fighter - he’s beaten it twice now.”

Mrs Davis founded the Children’s Brain Tumour Foundation and has run the OX5 for the last five years with her 49-year-old husband Paul.

The pair will once again be assembling a team to take on the five-mile Blenheim Palace run on Sunday, March 29.

Mrs Davis said: “At the end of the day, you never know when you might need to use the children’s hospital.

“We are so lucky to have such a great facility here in Oxford and they need the money to keep up their great work.

“We can help children and we can save children.”

The event is sponsored by city recruitment firm Allen Associates for the seventh year running.

Children’s hospital spokeswoman Sarah Vaccari said: “Children like Miles have seen so much in their young lives and understand better than anyone how important the Oxford Children’s Hospital is.

“We are delighted that Miles and his family continue to support the hospital’s charity and help raise funds to make life that little bit easier for our young patients.”
