Our contest winners get to write their own cheques - £47 to treat Mum to cream tea LARA Woodley wanted to treat her mum to something special, so the Oxford Mail wrote her a cheque to take her for a cream tea at the Randolph Hotel in Oxford. Miss Woodley, 37, said: “My mum has always been really good to me. “I told her I was taking her for tea at the Randolph and she was over the moon.” Miss Woodley, of Abingdon, is an artist, and works part-time at an Alzheimer’s care home in Audlett Drive, Abingdon. She said: “Money is a bit tight at the moment, but if we go window shopping she always buys me lunch. “Whenever we walk by the Randolph I say ‘when I’m rich and famous we can go to tea there’.” Miss Woodley draws in pencil and paints in oils. Her pictures range from cartoons to landscapes. At the day centre, Miss Woodley says: “I just go in there and try and brighten people’s day.” Her mum Sue, of East Challow near Wantage, said it was a “lovely gesture”. Mrs Woodley, 65, who is now retired, said: “I thought it was very sweet of her.”
