THE latest exhibition at Abingdon’s County Hall Museum is made entirely of paper pulp.

Former Abingdon resident Pat Russell, who died in 2011, created the flat sculptures, which have an alphabetical and sometimes biblical theme.

The artist, teacher and vestment designer has been honoured with a display of her work put together by friends.

One of those is fellow artist Janet Boulton, some of whose works are exhibited alongside to form a joint exhibition.

Abingdon resident Fiona Tonks, who is helping to promote the show, said: “This is unusual, intelligent, abstract work that should not be missed.”

The exhibition tells a story of two artists who in 1986, having attended a paper making workshop at the Oxford Polytechnic, set up an innovative studio in the cellars of Mrs Russell’s house in East St Helen Street, Abingdon.

Although different in their background and artistic practice, they shared an interest in letterform, language and the wide potential of paper pulp. The works shown illustrate the diversity of works they made on paper pulp, experimenting with different techniques.
