EGGS at the ready – Oxfordshire’s toughest baking competition is back.

Some 30 chefs have already signed up to compete at Abingdon’s second annual Peachcroft Quiche-off on Sunday.

The competition at Peachcroft Social Club will see Mayor Angela Lawrence judge whose baking is flantastic and whose has a soggy bottom.

The contest costs £5 to enter and will raise money for the mayor’s chosen charities: Abingdon Foyer for homeless 16 to 25-year-olds and Oxford Foodbank.

Organiser Paul Griffiths, club entertainment secretary, said: “It’s a good community and family event.”

He launched the competition last October and raised money for the Scouts and Guides and Abingdon Community Hospital League of Friends.

The professional gardener said: “We had a great time last year and wanted to build on that success.”

Competitors have to make all their own ingredients and bring their finished quiches to the club at 2pm on Sunday.
