Police called after caravans pitch up in Abingdon's Tilsley Park
TRAVELLERS have been setting up camp in Tilsley Park in Abingdon this afternoon.
Thames Valley Police spokeswoman Charlotte Redman said officers were called at 3.18pm to reports of travellers parking caravans on the site.
She added that police were on the scene.
One resident who contacted the Oxford Mail said he had never seen as many caravans there before.
About 18 caravans, along with tents and other vehicles, are currently on the site, off Dunmore Road.
Tilsley Park is managed by the Abingdon School and offers sporting facilities for the school and community.
Staff at the park confirmed that the travellers were camping on their land and that they had contacted the police.
