ABINGDON School has expelled four pupils for breaking its drugs policy.

The pupils, who did not take or have any drugs at the school, were permanently excluded during the summer term following a school investigation.

According to the Daily Mail, the probe was prompted by a Facebook page called "drugs chat" that showed them discussing cocaine and ecstasy.

It is believed seven other pupils were suspended.

David Dawswell, second master at the school, said: “In the course of the summer term, four pupils were permanently excluded from Abingdon School and others temporarily excluded for breaches of the school’s policy on drugs and substances.

“No pupil was found to have used or possessed drugs at the school.

“The school conducted proper investigations in accordance with its policies and legal obligations.

“It has a clear drugs and substances policy, which leaves pupils in no doubt that anyone found to be supplying, possessing or using drugs must expect to be permanently excluded with immediate effect.

“The school’s policy is supported by a comprehensive programme which informs pupils about the dangers of drug use through education, pastoral care, detection and sanctions.

“The school has also reported matters to the police and is unable to comment on the status of their enquiries.”

Thames Valley Police spokeswoman Lucy Billen said on Saturday that nothing had been reported to the force and there was no investigation into drugs offences at the school.

TVP then confirmed on Monday that police had in fact been made aware of the school's internal investigation, but added there was no ongoing police investigation into the matter and there never had been one.
