AN OLD-FASHIONED pub room has been built inside a care home in Abingdon so residents can have a drink, play dominoes and spend time with family and friends.
The Old Station House created the facility about three months ago by gathering together items that represented a true traditional hostelry.
The aim was to create a friendly and familiar environment for residents to sit with each other and their families when they visit.
Activities co-ordinator at the home Jeff Denton said the residents absolutely loved it.
He said: “It was just an old lounge room doing nothing before and then we turned it into a pub with a little garden.
“We called it the Railway Inn, after the old Railway Inn in Abingdon which burnt down several years ago.”
The Old Station House residents use their new pub room to reflect, play games, read and even have birthday parties. It also serves as a familiar room for residents suffering from dementia.
On Saturday the home hosted a fete for residents and members of the public in the room and garden, featuring stalls and a raffle.
Mr Denton added: “We have a little bar in there, all the old pub games, and a fireplace. So it really does have that pub feeling.”
