Public consultation on a plan to build 140 houses near Drayton High Street ends this Friday.

Savills estate agents lodged a planning application at the end of last month for the development, just south of the High Street, which also involves a new pedestrian and cycle routes, a communal space and new roads.

The developers also need clearing to knock down a section of a 1.4m high wall in Drayton Conservation Area, to improve road access to the houses.

Drayton adopted the Drayton2020 Neighbourhood Plan in March after it was approved in a public referendum. 634 of 637 local people voted for it.

The Vale of White Horse District Council previously said the land south of the High Street could fit more than 200 homes, but Drayton2020 opposed that figure.

Andrew Bax, chairman of Drayton2020, said: "This is very much more attractive. We've certainly come a long way. We've worked very closely with the developers and they have listened to a lot of our points."

He said he didn't think there would be much opposition to the plan.

The application states that there are protected species that live on the site, which Mr Bax believes might be nesting swallows.
