A JOGGER was punched in the head and neck when a man attacked him as he was running in Abingdon.

The 44-year-old victim was jogging on the cycle path in Audlett Drive when he was assaulted at about 7.40pm on Tuesday, December 29.

Police did not release any details about the incident until today.

The jogger bumped into a man walking in the opposite direction near White Horse Leisure and Tennis Centre, leading to a verbal altercation.

The other man, described as white, aged in his early 40s and of stocky build, then punched the victim repeatedly in the head and neck.

He suffered a cut to his head and was treated at Abingdon minor injuries unit.

Following the assault the victim flagged down a passing motorist and the offender, who was about 5ft 9ins tall and had distinctive long, blonde hair with a receding hairline at the front and a clean shaven face, walked off towards Radley Road.

He was wearing a black tracksuit and white trainers.

PC Stuart Talbot said: "This incident happened next to a busy road and I’d like to appeal to anyone who may have witnessed it, or seen either of the men in the area at the time, to get in touch."
