A STEEL salmon has made a splash at a new art exhibition.

The Nature of Art launched on Saturday at Abingdon’s County Hall Museum, displaying quirky items depicting the natural world.

Oil painter Bill Pike and sculptor Diccon Dadey collaborated in the exhibition, which museum curator Jane Bowen said has already proved popular with visitors. She said: “It’s all the things we would find on the river bank. It leaves a real impression.

“The feedback has been excellent. We have been able to use the height of the gallery to fill the space. With the steel birds it really feels like they are flying above you.”

Twenty paintings by Mr Pike are on display plus hand-woven wall hangings, focusing on water reflections and river animals.

Steel sculptures crafted by Mr Dadey are dotted around the gallery, including a life-size sheep and birds swooping from the ceiling.

The exhibition runs until April 11.
