EASTER isn't just a time for eating chocolate, and churches in Abingdon have been doing their bit to teach people about the religious side of the annual holiday.

Churchgoers have been setting up their own Easter "reflective space" for a week in the town's community shop in Bury Street.

On Saturday members spent the day outside the shop giving out free Easter eggs and encouraging them to pop in and make their own reflections.

Volunteer Sarah Fry, from Christ Church in Northcourt Road, said: "This is the first time we have done something like this for Easter although we did do one for Christmas as well.

"Visitors could experience Palm Sunday and say what they are thankful for, there is the story of the cross so people can say what they should not do.

"We felt that it was a really calm space for people to step into, the set-up was beautiful.

"It means people could easily reflect on the Easter story."

The shop also had an area where people could write any questions on a piece of card that they would want to ask God.

Although the pop-up shop closed on Saturday, there are plans for the church to possibly open it again as another space during the summer.
