THE McDonald's restaurant in Abingdon has been given a hi-tech makeover, creating 60 new jobs.

The drive-thru in Colwell Drive, run by franchisee Clifford Webb, was closed temporarily while the interior was being revamped.

To speed up the wait time for the American chain's burgers, customers now have the option of using one of the restaurant’s four self-order kiosks.

These allow customers to browse the menu. Table service has also been introduced to take the stress out of finding somewhere to sit when carrying food.

Mr Webb owns and operates 12 McDonald's restaurants across north London, Buckinghamshire and Oxfordshire.

He said: "We’re really proud of our new-look restaurant in Abingdon. It’s great to see a really positive response from customers and staff to the new features.

"Both the digital kiosks and the table service are designed to make our customers’ experience as positive as possible.

"They provide customers with a chance to get to grips with digital kiosks and table service in a relaxed environment, for a quick and easy way of ordering food.

"When ordering from the new kiosks customers will have the option to make different food choices, for example swapping fries for a side salad, or adding a fruit bag to their children’s Happy Meal."

The chain said in restaurants where table service has been introduced, customer feedback has been 'positive'.

The McDonald's in Abingdon, opposite the police station, is the latest in the county to get a makeover.

The chain's restaurant in Botley Road, Oxford, had a similar revamp in February, a decade after a £230,000 refurbishment in 2007 when the area was flooded.

There is also a drive-thru McDonald's next to the Milton Interchange, off the A34.
