TORIES hope that the next Banbury MP will be a woman, after it was revealed the North Oxfordshire Conservative Association's (NOCA) prospective candidate list has no men on it.

Taking to Twitter today NOCA said that its Executive Council had interviewed five men and six women, and had decided to shortlist four women.

NOCA added that the candidates were "interviewed and assessed objectively" and "gender was not a factor."

It added that it would not release the names of the potential candidates.

The successful candidate will replace Sir Tony Baldry, who is stepping down at next year's General Election, as the Conservative parliamentary candidate for Banbury.

In 2010 Sir Tony held Conservative stronghold of Banbury with a majority of 18,000.
