YOUNG dancers are hoping for their television debut after getting through the first stages of a national talent contest.

Dance company 2Fierce entered their Elite team in Britain’s Got Talent for their chance to perform in front of the Queen at next year’s Royal Variety Performance.

The 13-strong team of youngsters aged between 10 and 16 have made it through the first stage of the ITV competition after just a year dancing together.

Dance teacher Jordan Conlan said: “I’m very pleased for them. I saw the audition and I thought they performed at the best they possibly could and that makes me happy.

“It could be massively life changing. I think we could win because they are just the best that they possibly can be. We have got as much potential to succeed as anyone else.

“We have trained week in week out and from a year ago until now we have seen a massive improvement, so I don’t know how they are going to be next year.”

Annie Hart, a pupil at North Newington’s Bishop Carpenter C of E Primary School, said: “The audition was exciting but nerve-wracking as well.

“The most exciting bit is that not many of my friends have done this and we might get on telly.”

The 10-year-old from Banbury added: “It will be a dream come true because I have always wanted to do this.

“It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity because I don’t know anyone who has done this.”

Mr Conlan launched 2Fierce with girlfriend Jessica MacDonnell two years ago after meeting while studying for their NVQ National Diploma in Dance at Bedford’s Stella Mann College.

Dancers aged between seven and 18 from Banbury and surrounding areas now meet weekly for street, tap and contemporary dance classes at London Yard studios, in Parsons Street.

Last year youngsters auditioned for 2Fierce’s Elite team, which meets for 45 minutes each week to train for competitions.

Mr Conlan said he was moved to enter the youngsters in the competition after watching this year’s finals in June.

But he did not hear anything until four months later when the team were invited to audition in front of a producer.

Donning white shirts and black trousers, as well as a mixture of pink, yellow and green braces and bow ties, the youngsters took to the stage at Birmingham’s International Convention Centre on October 26.

Mr Conlan said their four-minute performance to C2C’s Happy was filmed by producers.

They now are waiting to hear if they will have the chance to perform in front of judges at Birmingham’s Hippodrome next spring.

Banbury-born Miss MacDonnell said: “We are really excited for them and really proud that they have worked so hard.

“It’s a massive deal for them. It just shows you can come from a small place and still do something.”
