POOR children are to be given a Christmas to remember as residents donate toys to a festive appeal.

The Mayor’s Annual Toy Appeal will launch in Banbury next month.

It asks people to donate toys that will be distributed to needy families in the run-up to Christmas.

Banbury Mayor Sean Woodcock, said: “There are some families in Banbury who, for various reasons, cannot afford to celebrate Christmas in the proper way.

“They have no money to spend on Christmas presents for their children, and cannot provide other seasonal luxuries that the rest of us take for granted.

“Every year without fail, generous people in Banbury and the surrounding area come forward to help those families, and this appeal is becoming increasingly important in these difficult times.”

The toy appeal starts on December 1 and runs until December 5.

New toys and second-hand toys in excellent condition can be donated at Banbury Town Hall between 10am and 4pm.

The Britannia Road Family Centre will receive the donations and distribute them to the right homes.
