Students and staff at Blessed George Napier School could have been exposed to an outbreak of tuberculosis.

Public Health England confirmed that somebody at the secondary school in Addison Road had been diagnosed with the lung disease. It said they had started treatment and were recovering well.

Alyson Smith, consultant in health protection, said: “We would like to reassure the public that the risk to anyone in the school community is very low.

“We are in the process of identifying all those who may have been in close contact with this individual and will be offering screening where appropriate.”
