OVER 2,000 houses in Banbury have been affected by a power cut this evening.

Western Power Distribution confirmed that 2,283 properties in the OX16 area, including Banbury Train Station, lost power at approximately 6.20pm this evening due to a “fault on the overhead high voltage cables”.

Banbury United F.C. were due to start their game against Corby Town at 7.45pm but delayed kick-off until 8pm because the floodlights went out.

Chiltern Railways has confirmed that trains are now stopping at Banbury Station now that power has been returned to the site.

All except 10 properties that were affected had the power restored at 7.34pm.
