A MAN was knocked unconscious and then his driving licence, debit cards and cash were stolen in Banbury.

The 32-year-old was attacked at about 7pm yesterday near Spiceball Park, police said.

Thames Valley Police said he was walking along the canal towpath behind Castle Quay car park and noticed three men drinking lager by a bench.

He continued walking and, when he reached the footbridge between the car park and H&M, he was struck on the head from behind, which knocked him to the floor.

Another blow to the face, possibly a kick, knocked him unconscious, police said.

The victim was left with minor cuts to his face and a swollen cheek. A member of the public called an ambulance and he was taken to the Horton General Hospital in Banbury.
