A MAN was pulled from his van by two men in Banbury last night and attacked with a knife, police said.

Thames Valley Police were called to Withycombe Drive at 11.45pm following reports a 23-year-old had been assaulted.

Officers said the man, who did not need to be taken to hospital, was sat in a parked van on a drive in the street when he was pulled from the vehicle by two men.

There was an "altercation", TVP said, before the two men fled, one on foot and the other in a blue vehicle.

The 23-year-old was left with suspected knife wounds, but did not need to be taken to hospital, the force said.

Detective Inspector Mike Roddy from Abingdon Force CID said: "We are in the early stages of this investigation and officers are in the area today conducting enquiries to establish exactly what took place.

"Fortunately the victim was not seriously injured but this was an understandably frightening incident for him. At this stage we believe that this was a targeted attack."
