WATER has stopped gushing from a pipe that burst earlier today in Banbury.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue spokesman Owen Morton said firefighters were called to the scene in Broughton Road at about 11.30am, where the road was flooded due to the burst water main.

He added: “The burst water main had flooded the road, with water affecting the basements of a number of properties along the street

“Crews from Banbury, Deddington and Eynsham attended, along with an incident support unit and a high volume pumping unit.

“Firefighters diverted the water away from the affected properties and have pumped water out of about 10 affected basements.

“Staff from Thames Water are on the scene and have isolated the water supply. Fire crews were due to leave the scene at  2pm.”

Spokeswoman Becky Trotman said: “Water supplies have now returned to normal after we stopped the flow of water from the burst pipe. We’re sorry to everyone who has been affected today.”

Broughton Road will remain closed until Thames Water finish their repair work.
