NEW mothers are invited to new activity sessions for mums and babies in Banbury.

Christopher David, manager of Rugrats and Halfpints in Beaumont Road, started the weekly get-togethers following news about the possible closure of children’s centres in Oxfordshire as part of county council cost-cutting measures.

Mr David, from Ruscote, said: “I heard that the centres may have to shut and thought this would be a disaster for those mothers who rely on them, so we’ve set up somewhere else they can meet.

“We would encourage all new mums to come along. We’ve also got soft play areas for the children to meet and get to know each other.”

The centre will also provide weighing facilities and specialised sensory equipment designed for young children.

The sessions, held on Mondays between 9.30am and 11.30am, will be for babies aged up to six months, although Mr David said they may consider older children if there is enough interest.

Each session costs £1 per child. For more information call 01295 250060.

The county council is proposing to close all 44 of its children’s centres, including four in Banbury, under plans to save £8m. They include Britannia Road Children’s Centre, East Street Centre in Calder Close, Sunshine Centre in Edmunds Road and North Banbury Centre in Ferriston.
