A HOSPITAL radio station has been given almost £300 by staff at a pub.

The Easington, in Banbury, gave the cash to Radio Horton, which serves the Horton General, after choosing it as the pub's 'charity of the year'.

It raised the money through collection tins at the bar and a family fun weekend, E-Fest, which featured live music and entertainment in July 2015.

E-Fest was held in the pub garden of the Easington and saw performances from Damien Black, Act in the Court, Lake Acacia, the Skeptics with Paul Proctor from the Uninvited and jazz and acoustic sets from Oxford Brookes University students, Ben and Oliver.

Radio Horton also hosted live broadcasts from the pub and held interviews with pub landlady Christine St-Clair-Christopher and Banbury Mayor Sean Woodcock.

A cheque for £280 has now been presented by the pub to Banbury’s hospital radio station.

Radio Horton chairman Kevin Matthews said: "We are delighted to have been nominated as the Easington’s charity of the year 2015 and our thanks must go not only to the staff for their efforts in organising the fundraisers, but to customers and the community of Banbury for their continued support towards the station.

"Pubs are often the centres of neighbourhood communities, and it is fantastic that The Easington continues to recognise and support the work of local charitable organisations."

Research conducted by the Hospital Broadcasting Association, a national body which represents and promotes hospital broadcasting across the country, revealed hospital radio has been found to have an impact on psychosocial health outcomes.

Mr Matthews added: "These funds will help us in our stride to deliver unique programming and relatable content that caters for patients in Banbury’s Horton General Hospital, with our ongoing aim to help better patient experience."
