A man and a woman have been jailed after being found guilty of assaulting two people in Banbury.

Jody Dance, 30, was jailed for a total of 26 months by a judge at Oxford Crown Court on Friday after being found guilty at the same court earlier that day of causing malicious wounding.

She was also sentenced for possession of an offensive weapon.

Brian Trinder, 33, was sentenced at the same hearing for causing malicious wounding and for assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He was jailed for a total of 32 months for both counts.

The pair, both from Station Approach in the town, were arrested on July 7 after they assaulted two people in the road.

Trinder punched one of the victims, a 32-year-old women, in the head twice.

Dance then approached the woman and struck her several times with a baseball hat in the head, ankle and arms, causing a large cut to her head which required hospital treatment.

The second victim, a 30-year-old man, was punched in the eye by Trinder as he went to intervene.

He received bruising to his eye and a fractured nose.

The pair were charged in connection with the offences on July 8 and were tried at Oxford Crown Court between Tuesday, November 29 and Friday, December 2.

PC Jonathan Cairns said: "Trinder and Dance’s despicable actions that day caused the victims to suffer severe physical and emotional pain.

“They both now have time in prison to reflect on the severity of their crimes.

"Any violent crime, especially involving the possession of offensive weapons, will not be tolerated and I am pleased the sentences have reflected the seriousness of the offences.”
