TWO people have been attacked after a group of masked men broke into a home and brandished a hammer, baseball bat and knife in Banbury.

Four men, with covered faces, broke into a house in Appleby Close on Sunday about 9.10pm and attacked a man in his fifties in the living room with a hammer.

The group then went upstairs and attacked a woman in her forties who was sleeping before ransacking another bedroom.

Thames Valley Police said the couple were left with bruising and have been traumatised by the targetted attack.

It added the group asked for a man during the attack who was not at the address.

One man who brandished a hammer is described as wearing a khaki green jacket with a peak on the hood of the jacket. He was black, about 6ft tall and spoke with an English accent.

Another man who had the baseball bat is described as black, under 6ft tall and of stocky build.

The man with a knife is described as Asian, under 6ft tall, of slimmer build and spoke with an English accent.

The last man is described as black.

Nothing was stolen.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Darren Pomroy said: "This was a specific and targeted attack. The offenders were looking for a specific person and took no property.

"The incident did however traumatise the innocent occupants at the address.

"I am appealing for any witnesses who saw a group of males or any suspicious vehicles near Appleby Close at around the time of the offence.
