A DRIVER had to be cut out of their car after veering off the road and ending up on its side in the verge.

Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said it used specialised hydraulic cutting gear to 'create space inside the vehicle'.

The accident happened on the A4260 Oxford Road, Banbury, near to Banbury Rugby Club yesterday afternoon at about 2pm.

Firefighters closed the road entirely when they arrived to give them space to work.

It said the driver was not seriously hurt and was treated at scene by a paramedic.

The fire service reminded people that Oxfordshire has one of the largest rural road networks in the South East and that almost 60 per cent of road deaths in Oxfordshire occur on rural roads.
