A SCHOOL in Banbury was forced to shut after sewage water overflowed its drains.
St Mary's Church of England Primary School closed for the day on Tuesday after Thames Water warned the school's safety could be compromised by an issue with the main sewer on nearby Southam Road.
The 200-pupil school send a letter to parents on Wednesday stating: "Waste had backed up to our main outlet and on Monday afternoon and evening reached a critical point, meaning our drains began to overflow.
"We can assure you now that all areas of the school are functioning properly.
"Thames Water cleared drains and sewers on site and made the school clean and safe.
"They will continue to work on Southam Road without affecting the school."
