AS THOUSANDS of people head to Bicester Village for Boxing Day sales, organisers insist traffic is under control.

Extra car parks are in place for the 40,000 shoppers who are set to go to the retail outlet for bargains.

The outlet's spokeswoman, who didn't want to be named, said: "We have worked really hard to make sure traffic is out of town.

"Asides from a few streets for staff parking we are keeping people out of Bicester town itself.

"We're working with police, the highways agency and councils to make sure residents are not affected too much."

Bicester Village has warned people that illegally parked cars will be fined and towed away.

Stagecoach has said the S5 service is experiencing delays heading towards Bicester Village and its buses will be diverting by Wendlebury and Chesterterton.

While there are queues between car parks around the retail park and on the a41, traffic is moving steadily elsewhere.
