A NURSING home in Merton near Bicester has been rated inadequate by healthcare watchdog the Care Quality Commission.

Manor House Nursing Home provides care for elderly people living with dementia or mental health issues.

During an unannounced inspection in October 2014, the CQC found the care home was “frequently short of staff” and there were cases where residents “received an excessive dose of medicine”.

The report, which was released on Wednesday, said inspectors found that residents “were at risk of their wellbeing and health needs not being met” and two residents were not protected from malnutrition after significant weight loss over the previous six months.

County council spokesman Marcus Mabberley said: “The findings of the CQC report are unacceptable and concerning. “The council stopped placing new clients at this privately operated home in October following information received from the CQC after they inspected.

“The council is now admitting new clients to the home again as officers are satisfied that concerns have been properly addressed. However, we will continue to monitor the home to ensure improvements in service are maintained.”

A spokeswoman from Embrace – the company that operates the care home – said: “We take all feedback from the CQC extremely seriously.

“We will continue to work with them to address the points raised.”
