Ardley landfill site has shut after 35 years and will no longer take nonhazardous waste.

The waste will now be recycled at waste management company Viridor’s £205m energy recovery facility.

The facility, next to the former landfill site, can recycle 300,000 tonnes of waste per year into 26 megawatts of electricity — enough to power about 38,000 homes.

The household waste recycling centre will not be affected by the closure.
