A WOMAN had to be rescued after her living room caught fire this morning.
The alarm was raised at 8.50am by a member of the public who could smell smoke and hear a smoke alarm going off in the house.
Firefighters entered the house, in Kennett Close in Bicester, wearing breathing apparatus and managed to get the woman to safety.
They put out the fire quickly, using a high pressure hose reel jet stopping any further spread to the rest of the home.
The woman was given oxygen and treated for smoke inhalation before ambulance crews arrived.
Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service sent crews from Bicester, Kidlington and Oxford to deal with the fire.
Crew manager Nigel Chaney said “It was lucky the occupier had working smoke alarms which quickly alerted the lady and person passing by the house to the fire.
"This was the reason that the lady suffered minor smoke inhalation injuries rather than anything worse."
He urged all residents to check their smoke alarms regularly.
