A POST office mistress who was robbed in her own store has said she felt “disgusted” that someone could do such a thing.

Pushed aside and robbed of a “substantial” amount of cash, Shirley Johnson, spoke of her frightening experience when her post office in Launton, near Bicester, was targeted by a robber on Monday afternoon.

As Mrs Johnson was locking up at 1pm a man approached the store and forced his way past her before empting the cash drawer and running off with the money.

Speaking to the Oxford Mail, the 67-year-old said: “It was over in a matter of minutes. I could not believe it happened. I feel really disgusted that there are people out there who attack people. It was just horrible.

“I have had this store for 35 years. I’m just shaken by what happened.”

The grandmother-of-three said she had seen the man who robbed her store, in Sherwood Close, on the morning of the crime when he came in to buy something.

She added: “I recognised him because he had been in earlier on.

“It was exactly 1pm and I went to lock up. I got to the front door and the individual turned up, pushed me back out of the doorway.

“He did not say a word. He just went behind the counter and took the money from the cash drawer.”

Mrs Johnson then said the robber stormed out of the shop, jumped into a Vauxhall Astra and sped off.

Two women saw the incident and tried to follow the car, but lost track of it and returned to the post office to tend to Mrs Johnson, who was fortunately unhurt.

She added the community had been “wonderful” in supporting her.

Thames Valley Police described the robber as stocky, of mixed race, and in his late 20s. He was about 5ft 8ins tall, clean-shaven and was wearing a black hooded top, black thick-rimmed glasses and black trousers or jeans.
