CARE home residents took to the ice to test their skating skills and show there is still a place for first time experiences no matter how old you are.
Residents at Manor House nursing home in Merton, near Bicester, spent a thrilling afternoon at Oxford Ice Rink in Oxpens Road as they tried their hand at wheelchair ice-skating.
The visit, on Wednesday, September 16, saw a group of eight care home residents glide around the rink in their wheelchairs and many stepped onto the ice for the first time .
Manor House nursing home activities manager Sharon Wheeler said: “This is the second time we have come to Oxford Ice Rink and a wonderful experience was had by all those who took part.
“We were impressed with how easily accessible ice-skating on wheelchairs is and easy for residents of all abilities.
“The session proved very popular with residents at Manor House and we look forward to bringing a bigger group in the future.”

Whilst on the ice the group were put through their paces with an “Oomph” exercise class – a new initiative set up by the care home to get residents active and promote health.
The session saw residents working out with pom-poms while navigating the ice rink.
Ms Wheeler said staff have been working with residents to develop the sessions which are designed to help those living with mobility challenges.
