A robber demanded cash then tried to pull rings from a woman's fingers in Bicester.
Thames Valley Police said the incident happened between 5.55pm and 6.05pm on Thursday.
The woman, aged 55 was pushed by her attacker, who then demanded money and tried to take her rings.
The force said the man is about 6ft, slim, in his late twenties, with pale skin, medium length dark hair, bloodshot eyes and acne scars on his cheeks.
He was wearing a dark zip-up coloured top and possibly gloves.
The victim was not injured during the incident.
Investigating officer, PC Nathan Davis from Bicester police station, said: "If you have any information about this incident or recognise the description of the offender then please contact the Thames Valley Police Enquiry Centre on 101."
