SUPERMARKET staff are set to strut their stuff on the cat walk for a cancer support centre near Bicester.

A charity fashion show is being staged at Sainsbury's in Pioneer Square, Bicester, with a whole host of volunteers signed up to make their fashion debut.

The event on Sunday, April 10 will raise funds for The Hummingbird Cancer Support and Therapy Centre in Launton.

Sainsbury's clothing department general assistant Susan Webber will be among those taking part in the show.

She said: "People can expect an evening of looking through our great clothes, plus music and ordinary people modelling and showing them off.

"There will be models from the store and models from The Hummingbird Centre.

"It is the second time we have held the charity fashion show and it went very well last year. Everyone really enjoyed themselves so we are looking to make it bigger and better this year."

The Hummingbird Centre, in Station Road, is the town's only cancer-specific support centre for sufferers and families.

The centre - run by co-founder Mechelle Harris - opened in 2014 and has helped hundreds of visitors since.

Last year volunteers at the support centre celebrated being able to expand its opening hours from two days a week to four.

The centre - which is completely run through donations - thanked locals for their support which enabled the service to expand.

All the money raised at the charity fashion show will go towards supporting the cause.

There will be about 30 volunteers taking part in the catwalk which will start at 7.30pm.

There will also be a raffle during the event.

Ms Webber added: "I modelled last year and it is something completely out of my comfort zone but I am looking forward to it.

"We hope to raise lots of money for The Hummingbird Centre which is Bicester Sainsbury's charity of the year."

The centre has been Sainsbury's charity of the year for two years running after customers and colleagues voted for it in the ballot.

The Hummingbird Cancer Support and Therapy Centre event co-ordinator Hilary Varney added: "It is a showcase of their clothing range at Sainsbury's but will be raising funds for us as we were chosen as the stores charity of the year.

"Events like this make an amazing difference as we are run completely on donations and we are all volunteers.

"The money raised means everything to us."

Tickets are £5 and customers can buy them from the service desk in store at Pioneer Square.
